As Artefact joins Positive AI, Médéric Chomel shares his perspective on the data, governance and human challenges of scaling AI.
He also discusses Artefact’s partnership with fellow member Naaia to help organisations put AI Act requirements into practice, and the ambitions behind Adopt AI, taking place in Paris this December.

Positive AI : Why has Artefact chosen to join the Positive AI community?

Médéric Chomel : At Artefact, our purpose isn’t just about deploying technology for technology’s sake : t’s about creating tangible, sustainable business value while fostering a responsible digital transformation. During my 12 years at Orange, and now leading Artefact’s operations in Africa, I have consistently seen that tech transformations only succeed when built on trust, transparency, and a deeply human-centric approach.

Joining the Positive AI community was a natural alignment of our core values. Positive AI provides an operational, open-source framework for responsible AI that goes beyond high-level ethics and moves into practical, measurable standards. For us, responsible AI isn’t an afterthought or a compliance checkbox; it is a foundational prerequisite for scale. As AI becomes deeply embedded in everything from financial services to supply chains, joining this collective allows us to co-create standards, share best practices, and guarantee that the systems we design and industrialize actively benefit businesses, employees, and society as a whole.

“Ensuring continuous compliance, data traceability, privacy, and bias monitoring across massive, evolving datasets demands an operating model shift.”

What are the main challenges companies face when deploying Responsible AI at scale?

Moving from a local proof-of-concept (POC) to enterprise-wide industrialization is where most AI initiatives stall. When adding the layer of “Responsible AI,” organizations generally hit three main friction points:Operationalizing Principles into Code: The primary challenge isn’t defining ethical principles—it’s translation. Converting abstract concepts like “fairness,” “transparency,” or “unbiased outputs” into concrete data engineering pipelines, MLOps, and algorithmic checks requires multi-disciplinary alignment between legal teams, business owners, and data scientists.Data Quality and Governance Foundations: You cannot build Responsible AI on broken or siloed data pipelines. Ensuring continuous compliance, data traceability, privacy, and bias monitoring across massive, evolving datasets demands an operating model shift, not just a technical fix.Change Management and Organizational Culture: Technology is rarely the biggest hurdle; culture is. Employees must trust the AI systems they interact with, whether it’s an automated fiber compliance tool or a banking risk engine. Scaling Responsible AI requires upskilling workforce teams, establishing clear human-in-the-loop accountability, and ensuring users understand why and how decisions are being made.

Artefact has partnered with Naaia, another Positive AI member, to help companies comply with the AI Act. Could you tell us more about this collaboration?

There is a common perception that regulatory frameworks like the European AI Act act purely as constraints on innovation. At Artefact and Naaia, we hold an optimistic, value-driven view: the AI Act is a major opportunity to establish standards for safety, quality, and digital sovereignty, building competitive advantages grounded in trust rather than raw processing power alone.

Our partnership with Naaia, the pioneer in AI Management Systems (AIMS™), is designed to turn these legal obligations into operational opportunities through a product-centric, multidisciplinary approach: Naaia’s SaaS Platform: Provides the core compliance management infrastructure. Through modules like Naaia Repository (inventorying systems), Naaia Assess (qualification), Naaia Core (compliance action plans), and Naaia Event Tracker (risk management), the platform translates regulatory requirements into structured operational workflows across the AI product lifecycle.

Artefact’s Integration & Design Expertise: We help clients design and implement AI use cases that adhere to “privacy by design” and “AI Act by design” principles right from inception. We work alongside client teams to restructure workflows, embed risk management into continuous deployment pipelines, and ensure ongoing compliance across complex enterprise architectures.

By combining Naaia’s risk management and regulatory mapping platform with Artefact’s end-to-end consulting and technical capabilities, we enable organizations across Europe and internationally to build trusted, compliant, and market-ready AI products.

Artefact is organising Adopt AI at the Grand Palais in Paris on 3 and 4 December. How has this event so quickly become the “Davos of AI”?

The rapid rise of Adopt AI stems from a core market need: the shift from AI experimentation to massive, enterprise-wide adoption. While many tech conferences focus heavily on futuristic predictions or raw research, Adopt AI was explicitly built around corporate reality, business transformation, and concrete value delivery.   It earned its reputation as the “Davos of AI” because of three core pillars:Unmatched C-Level & Policy Representation: Gathering Fortune 500 CEOs, global tech giants, frontier AI lab founders, top researchers, and policymakers at the iconic Grand Palais creates an unequaled environment for strategic decision-making.A Focus on Actionable Business Outcomes: The event isn’t about theoretical keynotes; it centers on real-world use cases, industrializing AI, workforce transition, and building European and global technological sovereignty.Cross-Ecosystem Synergies: By featuring dedicated tracks across vital sectors—Finance, Health, Retail, Energy, Defence, and the Planet—it brings together the entire ecosystem to address how AI is actively restructuring corporate operating models and global business. It has quickly become the mandatory gathering where global leaders don’t just talk about the future of AI—they set the agenda for how it is adopted at scale.
